Afetr a break of a few years I decided on getting 2 hens again last month. I decided to go for 2 POL Warren hens. Now here's the deal, both were happy and healthy when I got them. One started laying really soon but the other one just stopped developing. She started looking all lethargic, feathers puffed up etc. When I felt her crop it felt all watery one day but the next it was empty. When let out to roam the garden she seems pleased, follows the other around and pecks at stuff but doesn't seem to eat. She weighs now next to nothing. I rang the lady I got her from and she was at a bit of a loss and suggested to give her some yoghurt, which I have done twice now. But what is strange is that she seems to vomit, what looks like raw egg white when you pick her up. Could she be 'internally laying' if she hasn't actually started laying yet? Her comb is still as small as when we got her. I doubt it is worms as there is only the 2 of them and no chickens have been kept here before. Just no idea...of course this hen is particularly sweet and a favourite in our house... However I don't want her suffering... Suggestions please???

is there any blood in poop

is the feathers ruffled and she just sits in corner

it may be she has cocci

6 different strains so even if she is vaccinated as she would be being a warren it may be a different strain has caught her

harkers coxoid for 7 says will help her

Hi there,

No there is no blood in her poo, she seems happy to come out for a while in our garden and pecks at things though doesn't seem to eat a lot if anything. She can look very sorry for herself and be very late to come out of the coop but at other times seems ok-ish. She is always around our feet and dutifully pecks at little offerings we give her to eat, though usually drops them. I guess since she's been on and off like this for about 3 weeks now she must be eating something? The whole vomit thing we only noticed 2 days ago for the first time, we thought it may have been after we had given her some yoghurt. But today she did it as we picked her up before the yoghurt. We have been giving them poultry tonic in their water for the past 5 days. We did wonder if it was an egg laying thing. You see the thing is that when it started we were away for a few days and had a family member come in and look after all our animals. When we returned home there were quite a few eggs in the coop, they looked mostly similar like the ones we get from our other hen but there was 1 in there that was distinctly lighter in colour, larger than the others and turned out to be a double yolker...I wondered if it had been hers and caused trouble? However her rear end is all clean and no eggs stuck or anything.... (she is the hen on the right on my avatar, this pic was taken the 1st day we had them and as you can see she looks alert and healthy)
