HELP possible gangrene from fox bite

What do I do if green area continues spreads?
How can you tell if it is gangrene? There is no smell yet...

My year old bantam leghorn escaped from a fox 3 days ago. I've been putting antibiotic ointment on it. Yesterday was able to examine it better and found greenish-bluish on abdomen around bite. Cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide and diluted iodine, and antibiotic ointment. This AM the greenish has spread to upper part of one leg.
She is walking and eating and acting normal - maybe a bit stiff.
What else can I do?

Gangrene, at least the wet kind, stinks and is usually black -- but this is some sort of infection, I would assume. I rarely suggest antibiotics and don't know which one would be your best bet, but i believe I would find a way to get a systemic antibiotic in her.

Thanks Flockwatcher. What type of antibiotic do you suggest. I don't think our local vet takes care of chickens--actually have no idea.
I'm hoping Agway might have some antibiotic? I've read here on BYC to give them by injections. Do you know any more about that?
I'm hoping the green-blue might be bruising, but I'm afraid that it is not.

You can try an anti infective like LA 200 if your wanting to give injection. With that one I give 1/4 cc but my birds are bantam an so with a larger bird I would give a 1/2 cc. Its given once daily into the breast muscle for 5 to7 days. I like to use a alcohol swab and it nicely parts the feathers and exposes the skin so you can easily inject.as for gain green my cat had it and its a black area usually accompanied with swelling. If the area is gain green it will need to usually be cut out. For my cat we got the area cut out and it drained then continued antibiotics and he healed nicely. But you will notice an awful smell and the tissue is usually black and necrosised meaning rotten. I'd try the injections of antibiotic and see how it does. Likely its bruised.
