When feeding this morning I caught one of the girls running around with this. It smells bad, but all the girls are acting completely normal. Could it be the beginning of laying lash eggs? It’ll be fairly difficult to pinpoint who this came from. We have over 20 hens. Any advice is greatly appreciated, we don’t have any vet nearby that will see a chicken.

Did you cut it open?
It does look like lash material.
It does not mean that the girl that laid it is doomed. If everyone is acting fine, she should be okay.
I had a hen pass lash material once over a year ago and she's never shown any issues and never did it again that I am aware of. She still lays her normal eggs.
Lash material is shed infected reproductive tissue so they don't just keep coming as a matter of course. If it does keep coming or get's worse or she starts to become lethargic, I would try a course of a broad spectrum antibiotic for 7 days to see if that clears up the infection.

Thanks! I did not cut it open it wasn’t in a closed ball. The chickens were running around with it and it just seemed like a string of flesh like substance. Everyone seems completely normal thankfully. Hopefully it doesn’t progress. I do have a hen that lays extra large eggs that hasn’t been laying for a couple weeks and now I’m wondering if it’s her.

Yes- she’s a little over a year old. Lowest in the pecking order and has been bullied for the last several months with feathers missing. She’s starting to grow them back now but that’s because I’ve separated her since Sunday night when I found her laying off by herself and with a tone of fire ants on her. I gave her vetrx and nutridrench and she seemed to perk up and was eating and drinking. Then Thursday morning I noticed a white substance hanging from her vent and a few hours later found a little more. I only have doxy -tylan powder which I mixed up and have been giving her. She hasn’t eaten today.

I bought a bottle of 250 mg Fishmox online. You can do a search and buy it from whatever works best for you.
I'd give one 250 mg capsule every 8 hours for 5-7 days.
Make a mash for her out of her food and add a little PND to that as well.
Is she drinking?

Thank you- I will have to research to find where I can get that online. She is drinking. I’ve never experienced this before- last night she was outside and taking a really good dust bath. I’m not giving up on her just yet. I’ve given her the mash but what is PND?
