I recently purchased some baby turkeys from a local feed store. They were very docile and sweet. I lost a Turkey the other day and chalked it up to being sick since it had recently escaped it's cage and had been cold for a while. Just a little while ago I discovered another one dead. They are a few weeks old. I have no reason to believe that this one was sick. They have plenty of food and water as well as a warm heat lamp. I DON'T WANT TO LOOSE ANY MORE! HELP!

I have lost a 3rd and a 4th is VERY sick. He's breathing heavy. Laying on his side with his eyes closed. His mouth is opening and closing. I gave him a little water but didn't want to overdo it. He won't eat.

At the age that you are losing them, it is possible that it could be coccidiosis. You can try using Corid. Follow the directions on the package.

Earlier his opened his eyes really wide, stiffened, and stopped breathing. I thought for sure I was going to lose him. I started to massage his neck and talk to him and then he started breathing again. They did actually get cold a couple nights ago cause the heat lamp was too high so we lowered it for the others and I brought the the turkeys inside. That's when we lost the third and one of the others got sick. We warmed em up really quick and the sick one snapped put of it. Then I went in this morning and found him sick again!

I looked that up and I'm not convinced that's what it is. They don't have the main symptom. Their scat is normal, not bloody or watery. Thank you for your help though. I appreciate it!

It does not have to be bloody or anything. I had a turkey jake who was much older than your poults get it and most of his scat looked normal, some was a foamy yellow. His wings were drooped and he was lethargic. I thought it was blackhead but was told that it was most likely coccidiosis so I treated him with corid and he was back to normal in a few days.

Hmmmm....maybe I'll try that. What's weird is that all the chicks are fine. I had the turkeys in with like 17 other birds and only the turkeys got it. They shared water feed slept together....it just seems strange.
