Let me catch you up.

We have a LG running, with two batches of staggered eggs in it.

Batch "A" go's into lock down tomorrow, and I'm getting the "DIY" bator we made and finished running a course for 24 hours before we add the eggs, so the humidity and temp will be perfect for lock down conditions.

We will be putting batch "A" in the lock down bator, BUT............... it wont stay at 99.5 even though its pre factory set to it. I don't want to mess with the thermostat and mess everything up.

The temp is steady at 100-102 and the humidity is at 75%.

Will my eggs be OK to go through lock down at that temp!?

I guess I could drill some other holes in the cooler (DIY bator) to see if it will regulate heat better. I'm thinking, if it has more holes, the heater/fan will run to keep it at 99.5..... instead of the bator being so insulated (which it is) and not being able to cool itself down to 99.5.

I have one thermometer, one hygrometer/thermometer and the thermostat on the outside with a probe running inside at the height of where the eggs would sit

If it were me I would add a couple holes/up the humidity. I had two LG incubators that I was not impressed with the stability of them. I LOVE my Hovabator 1588 though. So I know what you mean about getting the temp right. If you up the humidity it can drop the temp a degree or two, and I think they should be ok at that point. I used some sponges to line the bottom under the grate to help keep the humidity up when I was having the same trouble. I think at the last stage having a little extra heat is far less harmful than early on. I am by no means an expert, and this is just only my opinion.

To add a side not. My first hatch was destroyed because my LG crapped out in at 8 oc'clock on hatch day. Some had started to pip, but all I had was a heat lamp, no back up bator to keep them warm. The temps were up and down so much (88-105) I knew they wouldn't make it. My second try after I exchanged the first one ended with a chick hatching at night (we are calling it Son Of Sam) and taking out the fan kit and dropping the temp so low that it killed all of the chicks that had broken the membrane. I adjusted the temp and slowly but surely a few more hatched, that had pipped but not broken the membrane.
ARG! I feel your pain.

thank you for your timely response.

I was talking about the temp in my lock down bator. Its not a LG.

The two batches are currently in my LG yes, but we will be switching the lock down part of it to a DIY bator we made with an IncuKit.

So, i guess my question is will my eggs be OK in the lock down mode in the DIY bator under that temp (100-102) with the humidity up to snuff at 70%?

My LG has run fine.

I believe it they will be fine. Just monitor the humidity closely and keep it up. My last hatch I had to open the incubator, due to multiple difficulties, multiple times. With all the other issues I am gratefull I came out with 4 healthy chicks (only one hatched but didn't make it). Good luck and let me know how it turns out!

I'm welcoming any other advice as well, but THANK YOU so much for your help!

102 is TOO hot 100 is just fine. How accurate is you thermometer? My life hatching got easier when I got a digital thermometer that reads to the 10th of a degree.Bought it at wal mart It has a remote unit you put in the incubator and then don't have to open lid to check closely..

hmmmm, ok. thanks. what section did you buy it in?
what does it look like? color? brand name? I will try to send mybf to buy one. i have a digital hygrometer/thermometer in it now, the big bulky one everyone buys from walmart, but i think it needs to be calibrated, and it has no instructions on how to do that in package/paperwork

i only have 2 holes 1 1/2 " for ventilation, is that not enough?
