Yes, I have completely separated her. She doesn't seem to be bothered at all.....

So, we have 2 roosters for 25 hens, and I have 2 hen with raw backs, I have been telling my husband to separate them but it didn't happen and now she looks bad, I went out to the coop this morning to specifically to separate her and found her torn. it is about 2-3 inches long, I think it was a small tear until I grabbed her and it tore she was bleeding a little for only about 3 minutes. so bleeding wasn't bad at all. I am a nurse by trade so I am used to treating humans and this would be horrid, but is it that bad in the chicken world. I dint know if I should intervene? I guess I just dint understand how the healing process happens in the chicken world. .......So what do I do? I have a suture kit should I put some stitches in it? or just triple antibiotics?

Yes, I have her completely separated her, she doesn't seem to be too bothered by it.

apparently, I dont know how to post a picture properly, I will work on that, but would like responses if possible before that.....

This is EXACTLY what I am dealing with now and other's the past two weeks. Must be the moon. I have been putting blue-kote on it, which I have seem MANY other's do on here...seems like the best, and then I put home made saddles on them. Last night my husband and I wrestled the rooster to dremel file his spurs and nails down. I have them all separated out there by hens and rooster in large run, rooster has half and is separated with long dog fence pen and then my chicks in the small run and coop. Poultry drama to say the least. Keep an eye on her though, one of my hens is acting lethargic and sad today. Best thing is to keep them off of the hens, protect their backs, and blue-kote. I guess they say chickens heal quickly.

do you have any steri strips-i'd try those just enough to approximate and drain too, it will heal OK if you can keep it together...if you don't have steris you can make them by tearing little strips off papertape, it doesn't look bad to me.

That's small potatoes in the chicken world. Clean it out really well with betadine tea, dry it off, and super glue it shut leaving a small opening at the lowest point to allow for drainage. Spritz her with Blukote to hide it and she should be good to go.

Time to trim some spurs on those roos.

Good luck.
