Just for the purpose of learning - these things, if handled immediately, heal much more quickly and are less costly. Hindsite is 20/20.

That being said, you DID take her in and I wish you the best of luck with her therapy!

I've been noticing that my little chickie has been helpless lately and seems to depend on me a lot. Whenever I lay her down she cries and she wont sleep unless she's in my arms. Is this going to be a problem in the future?

It might be. Are there any little meek babies from the other group that could be put with her that won't bother her bandages much? Maybe she could have a buddy (they're flock creatures) and then you put something (like shiney chain) in there to keep them pecking on that and not the bandage?

Thank you all for the help and support you've given me but unfortunately the chick has to be put down. The vet put a cast on her leg and it's been fine or so we thought. Today we went to a new vet and he was honest and told us that the leg cannot be fixed and the chick is not eating properly because of it, the vet said that there is little chance that she will survive the winter because she is losing fur before she is ready to grow feather which is balding her. I thought a lot before making this decision but it really is necessary because she's suffering far too much.

Well I'm very sorry to hear that you lost your little chick. Thank you for taking her to a vet - that was the right thing to do. /hugs

I am sorry that you and your chickie have gone through so much. You tried the best you could to help her.
Is the new vet you wet to an avian vet? Why didn't you go back to the original vet? Sometimes you need to beware of vets that look at your chickie and say, "I don't want to waste my time on this chicken. They can just go down to the feed store and get a new one. I have "real" emergencys to get to." So please be careful of the vets you take your "pets" to. Others just consider them as expendable and not pets, just chickens.
Thanks for updating us. Take care. If you need anything else in the future post, post, post!
