here are our 3 week old chicks. We bought them as supposed week-old pullets (hope they're all girls) and were told we were buys Rhode Island Reds. Well, the receipt just said "reds" and I've been searching the web ---- all the pics I've found of Rhode Island Red chicks just DON'T look like our girls. They were yellow when we got them, no brown tint.

anyone have any ideas to their breed at this age? (3 1/2 weeks). One looks much lighter than the others (far left). You just never know if, when children were allowed to play with the chicks in Tractor Supply, if they happened to put other types back in the red pullet bin.

thanks in advance,
Greg

Greg,
We were in TSC in Washington, NC at the checkout counter a few Saturdays ago when the Postman delivered a big box of chicks to the store. I was surprised to have a big label on the outside of the box that said " Centurion Hatchery". Well the first thing we did when we got home was to google them and see who they were.
Here is a link to their site:
http://www.centurionpoultry.com/products
They do not sell Buff Orps or Rhode Island Reds instead they sell their own line of meat birds and layers. If you look at their site you will see why they labeled them as red chicks and yellow chicks, etc.
I am sure a lot of people are going to be in the same boat you are wondering what they got as their cute chicks turn into mature birds.
I am very surprised at TSC for doing this.

Greg,
When you go to the link, look at the top of the page at the chick picture,
above "News & Events"
Do they look familar?

yes, that pic does look like our girls. (so hoping they ARE girls).

looked at the pics on the website. Their reds (they called browns) had light colored feet. Our girls have bright orange feet. That make any difference in identification or does it vary sometimes.

We're right in the middle of the city and can only keep 3, maybe 4 of these 6 and will have to find homes for the other 2.

thanks

Your birds might not of come from that hatchery. A lady from Ideal Poultry came on a few weeks ago and made a post about how TSC was subcontracting with several hatcheries. Also your chicks feet will not stay bright orange.

First time post -- so I hope I do this right...

But just wanted to chime in and say that I picked up 10 chicks from the TSC 2 weeks ago -- in the assorted pullet bin -- that look *exactly* like your chicks. I know mine came from Privett Hatchery, and from what I've researched, they appear to be "golden sex links". Hope that helps!

If I knew how to post a pic then I would... it's neat to see someone else's chicks who look like mine, feather; colors; and all!

Just figured out how to post pics.

So here's a pic of my girls from yesterday (well, I hope they're girls anyways!). I have one that is also bigger & lighter than the rest -- she's in the front middle on the group. It's neat to see them grow and get colors in their new feathers... they were just yellow striped fuzzy cuties when we got them 2 weeks ago.
