HELP --Rescued day or so old chick from TSC......

agreed...

I disagree unless the chick seems to not want to eat and acts really sluggish if not it just might be OK

. The man I but my D Uccles from doesnt beleive in culling anything. He just lets them free roam while the healthier ones are in their coops. His seem to do just fine so I would definetly say splint it and give the chick a chance

All right, so we fed the little one a little yogurt..it gobbled it down....How much/how often should we give food directly? I'm not sure it's eating the chick starter--it is drinking though on it's own--any suggestions? So far so good

I cringe every time I go to Tractor Supply and see how people allow their children to handle chicks and ducklings. It's amazing that more aren't hurt.

With regard to your injuried chick, I think that were it me, I would take this as a real good life learning experience. I would explain in detail all of the problems and work associated with trying to save this chick. Make sure he understands that some times our best efforts aren't enough and if the chick starts to get worse you will not allow it to suffer. That he will have to be involve with terminating it.

If the chick makes it then everything is golden, but if it doesn't he will have learned a little responsibility and also learned that sometimes, in spite of our best efforts, things don't always work out the way we would like.

chicks should have food and water available 24/7.

We did have the regular grit out and the water available with electrolytes in it (Quick Chick) -- We were doing the yogurt thing just to make sure it was eating--Got another problem now, it's lonely--

---I don't want to put another baby in with it because I'm afraid it'd pick the leg---but---it's not happy unless it's being held or has a hand---I even got creative with a glove last night--stuffed it and it was black, so it held the heat of the light---not good enough---We even grabbed my son's beanie baby aflac duck thinking maybe if it had something to snuggle with it'd do better???? Not so much---I really think it's going to make it---now it's just about making it comfortable and un-lonely

i would suggest a buddy. chickens and most other poultry are flock animals. they don't thrive in a loner situation.

a buddy that is a little smaller may be a good thing to try.
if you're not too far off of I 75, shout out! my family and me are driving through to Kentucky the 16th. i could load up some chickies and bring them down to ya!
