Hi all,
I'm in a pickle, we rescued a very new merganser duckling from a very busy road in our town, from what I can understand is that she is a sea duck, I am raising Rouen ducklings so I have a brooder set up, I can't get her to eat, she will drink if I help her. She does not seem Ill, I have put duck and goose starter in but she won't go near it. Being that she's a sea bird i thought fish, she won't go near that either......any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I think I would try finding some of her kind with duckling and see if they will except it. I'm a permitted rehabber but I know nothing about a merganser. Have you searched for a rehabber in your area? Even if they are not close they should be able give you some advice. Here in the states it would be illegal to keep it, not sure what your laws are. Good luck.

Really needs to be a wet brooder. Try floating goldfish food and small minnows. If you can, take a net of pond water and place that in the water.

Awesome!! Thanks for the tips, the closest rehab from us is like 8 hours, I contacted them and got some info but not a lot. I will be trying to rehab her and setting her free, tried not being around a lot so she can see me, I put a mirror in the brooder, she seems to like that, she cuddles up to it. I'm going to try the wet brooder and fish food, I'll try anything at this point. Thanks again
