Richard is our 3.5 year old heritage turkey who was supposed be Thanksgiving dinned that first year. Now she is our favorite bird pet. But she has this scaly, red area on her left in two spots and she limps. We have no aviary within 3 hours of us. What is this and how do we treat?

Richard is our 3.5 year old heritage turkey who was supposed be Thanksgiving dinned that first year. Now she is our favorite bird pet. But she has this scaly, red area on her left in two spots and she limps. We have no aviary within 3 hours of us. What is this and how do we treat?

I don't know for sure what it is but I would treat it initially as if it is from scaly leg mites.

Your hen appears to be a Broad Breasted Bronze and not a heritage variety.
