Ok, Ive had my roo: Big Daddy and he is big!! and my hens since 3 days old...has always been tame and gentle...never ever had problems with him. Yesterday we had another bad storm, and we flood, the way my coop is, they can go under the coop, well from past experience, they always go UNDER the coop, then Im trying to get them out from under there in flood water so they dont drown, and look them in the coop.
Yesterday we even had winds over 60, so I went out in the heavy rain, flood and I had before the rain BLOCKED off so they couldnt get underneath. I closed the door on the coop alittle...everyone was in the coop, except 4 hens, I grabbed them and put them in, and CLOSED THE COOP DOOR. SAFE.

Today, I slept in til 9am was feeling sick, as soon as I got up, I rushed out and opened the coop. Big daddy attacked me!!!! Did his what I call Michael Jackson dance, and was looking at me. ok, feed them no problem. Here we are 3hrs later, I went out to check for eggs, walked in coop. Had my back turned and HE ATTACKED ME AGAIN!!!!

Why is he doing this? Im hearing what I always wear, baseball cap, shorts, my crocs, a tshirt (black)...Im sure Ive woren black before....Im lost here!!!

How old is he? DBF's roo started that when he was about 1-1/2 years old. My roo is almost 1-1/2 now and started looking at my funny just yesterday. If it's not the age, maybe he just was really stressed from the weather situation and will calm down soon. Sure hope so - good luck!

Ive had him since he was 3days old, and he is now 29wks old...I had before, ended up with 7roos and 8 hens...so 2wks ago, I got rid of 6roos...so he is the only roo and 8 hens...since 2wks ago...has always been quite and tamed.

click on MY BABIES, and you can see them all...he is huge!!!

my big boy, Peckerhead tried that with me a month or so back, I think he was just trying to 'challenge' me as the flock leader lol all I did was push him off and picked him up and walked around a little bit holding him and he's been fine since

I don't know about this age. But SInce some of the flock is gone I'm sure they are re-establishing the pecking order. He's gotten to big for his britches and it sounds like its time to remind him that you are boss!

MY big white leghorn came after me twice in one day and almost drew blood the second time. When he charged me the third time I gave him a good kick! Not enough to "hurt" him but enough he hasn't come too near me since!

Funny thing, my 9 year old and him are BEST friends. He walks around holding him all the time>

GO figure?

, I did tell DH, and talk about heavy hard laughing, thought pants were gonna get wet...first you talk to the chickens, and then you dance with them...

Now what I didnt say was, I was also telling my Roo, you wanna dance? Come on lets dance, I can dance just like you, come on big daddy...

Anywho, I sure hopes he stops....and goes back to normal. Hate having to watch my back.

I have a BO roo that is about 2 years old and every once in a while he will act like he wants to "dance". I give him a good slap or a swift kick and when he gets up, he seems like he knows I'm the boss. Of course I don't hit him that hard, just enough to get his attention.

my GLW did a dance to me once

i chased him with a broom for 15mins waving it and yelling at him "DO YOU WANT A PIECE OF THIS!!!!?!?!?!?"

after him squawking about it for an hour he never did it again

lesson is: broom = behaved roosters.

You got your bluff on him, as my DH would say. Keep reminding him who is the boss of the flock and he will hopefully continue to mind his Ps and Qs. If he's the new head of the flock, he might have been just testing the waters to see how much he could get away with.
