hello!! As of last summer, i came into 6 hens and a rooster all ranging from 2-4 from somebody trying to get rid of them. Below i have some pictures of my roosters frost bitten foot, and how's its healing. The chickens were all quite healthy besides the rooster who had a limp and jumped a lot but got around quite fine and i was told he was attacked by a hawk young and has been like that since. Things were good until winter time and being completely new to chickens I had quite a lot to learn ( including dealing with a rat infestation oh myyyy! let me tell you!!! ). Looking back at i definitely could've done with more winter proofing of the coop, luckily though everyone else has made it ot of the cold winter fine. I went home for holidays and came back to some black toe and comb tips so I got a vetericyn, healXcel, electrolyte, brought him inside and just tried to keep spraying the wound .It took me awhile to find a vet who looked at chickens, in the meantime his foot was getting worse. I finally found one and i was told he had frostbite as suspected, on top of arthritis, or degenerate joint disease. Well the vet wanted to put him down but i think my boy has way too much life to him! I put him back outside soon as it was warm enough separated from the ladies but he found his way to them. His comb healed but his toes fell pretty clean off, little blood outside and since we've been wrapping it up as often as we can, along with an epson soak. He's been doing pretty good otherwise, he stil spends time outside and keeps up with all the ladies. Don't know how to treat exposed bone at all any tips would be great. Looking for natural food and herbs with antibiotic, anti inflammatory all good everything type things good for wounds and arthritis as well !!
