Help! Salem is trying to ban chickens

Would be better in my opinion if there was a section for non residents.
In our city/county/state unregistered voters disqualify any petition that is not certified by the governing authority. So the effort is wasted beyond the laws governing said petition.
There was a recent byc member thread who had this problem. Her petition was disqualified by the local gov authority.

In Arizona only Az citizens may sign a petition. If the petition is for a city or county or school district, you must reside there. Enough ineligible signatures and 1) the petition could be tossed or 2) the number of signatures needed for the petition to be considered, put on the ballot, whatever is unlikely to be met. I beleive that petition circulators must also be Az citizens.

I personally have a very negative view of "outsiders" trying to influence legislation. Be it at the neighborhood, the city, the county, the state or the national level. Doesn't matter if I agree or disagree with their stance, their lobbying is inappropriate.

On the other hand, providing accurate information, especially through the auspices of a local person, and giving them moral and emotional support are certainly appropriate for anyone, regardless of where they live.

Kinda seems communist to say you have no freedom to have chickens. Sometimes a democracy backfires for some. The squeekiest wheel gets oiled. Local citizens who like their chickens better start squeekin. would like to sign but I cant I dont live there.

What gets me about Salem,VA is that they have a farmers market about a block from where this young couple lives and the flags that SALEM bought and placed all along the market have chickens on them! lol We actually bought a What the Cluck shirt from them about 2 weeks ago, DH wears it proudly and I will probably end up getting him another one soon! They are a really nice young couple, their home is gorgeous (the plants were unreal that they have) and their children were beyond precious! I too signed the petition a couple of weeks ago, we live in Roanoke City and can have up to 10 poultry (we currently have 8) lol
