Hi, Selena my 11 wk old salmon faverolle pullet has stopped eating, she has been drinking a lot of water and sometimes it makes a gurgling noise when she's swallowing. For the past 2 days her crop has been empty. She is a bit lethargic but not much. Her face and eyes are clean. I gave her mycostatin just incase of sour crop.

Small bit of an improvement today, her breeder said to keep them in until they get better and feed her spinach. She showed signs of wanting food, so I trimmed the feathers around her eyes but she still won't eat. I blended up chick crumb, spinach and electrolytes and I'm going to syringe feed her.

I've had her almost 3 weeks now, the vet said it could be a sick stomach and gave me norodine, she said it could be coccidiocis and to look out for blood in her poop, she said get norodine in first and then see if there's blood in her poop to get something for coccidiocis. She doubts it is coccidiocis as only 2 are showing symptoms.

Chickens don’t have stomachs so I am a little suspicious of the vet’s advice. In my experience coccidiosis is the most likely suspect and blood doesn’t always show up in the stool with it. It happens very often when a chicken is exposed to new soil that contains a new strain of cocci bacteria. Furthermore, treatment is easy and the entire flock should be treated. It won’t hurt them. Feeding them thiamine (B vitamins) will feed the bacteria and counteract the treatment. If I were in your shoes I would get some Corid (amprolium) and treat the whole flock but the Salmon Fav specifically if she is separated. Dose is 2 tsp powder per gallon made fresh daily for a week. You can lower the dose and do another week after that but if it coccidiosis you should see an improvement within a couple days.

Yes, when I go get the medicine I'll get corid or any coccidiocis treatment as I don't know if I can get it in ireland. So should I stop the electrolytes? I have 9 teenage chicks one I hatched myself his name is Sesame, he usually sleeps with his mom at night time. I moved all the chicks in a large dog run in my garage. Can I put Sesame with my adult flock at night or should I leave him with the chicks? Could he pass it to my older hens? These are the vitamins in their electrolytes.
