Help Save Elderly woman's chickens!!

somad.gif
The city of Henderson, KY is trying to force a elderly woman to get rid of her backyard friends. Mable Biccum 66, retired after 32 years with Little sisters of the poor, is keeping chickens in a coop in her backyard. We (Evansville Backyard Chickens) today from the County code enforcement officer that there is nothing that states you can or can’t have chickens in the city limits but they are still forcing her to find them a new home. We are working with Andy Schneider the Chicken Whisper a widely known web radio host and all around chicken advocate to help her out of this and allow her to keep a few chickens. The code enforcement officer was a guest on his show today the link to it is at the bottom. Mable was on his show last Thursday the 11th and you can listen to that also from the same link.

Evansville backyard chickens has a online petition going a blog, Face book page and is working directly with Andy and Mable to get this over with.

Considering 25 chickens on a city lot, and that people was able to smell the chickens from the road. Sounds like she had too many to take clean up after.

Hey BYC Members,

As stated above I'm working on this case as we speak. I can't give out any specific details, but I have an Ace up my sleeve that may be pulled out as early as Tuesday. I set aside four other cases that I was working on temporarily so I can concentrate on this one. I talked to the city today, and will have more information on Monday.

I know I will eventually lose a case, but I'm currently undefeated with every case I have ever been involved in. I hope this will be another one in the win column. The four other cases look promising too! I will keep you all posted as I get more information.

I signed. I was a little afraid I would be exposed as a chicken outlaw. But I had to sign. I really hope she gets to keep her chickens. I am sick , and before my chickens I would stay weeks even months in bed. Now I can at least go outside and sit with my hens. I at least feel like I am doing something other then sitting my butt in bed. My biggest fear would be someone reporting me and having to get rid of any of my hens. I am just hearbroken at the thought of this lady loosing her pets. It is wrong !!

Mr. Chicken whisperer....GODSPEED!!!! People complain about the smell of chickens.........my God what is this spoiled country coming to? I say let them all starve to death! They've shut down the San Joaquin.......America land of the Free and the home of the STARVING!!! MARK MY WORDS!

Reminds me of my neigbor when I was building fence. She for some unknown reason thought I was geting pigs... she informed me that would be a problem. I asked her "Carol whose neighborhood should we stink up so you can enjoy bacon in the morning?"

I'd rather have chicken (or pigs for that matter) Than communism!

I signed. Best of luck to you, her, and all the chicken outlaws of the land. IMO once your land is bought you should be able to do whatever you want with it - sad that government big and small is micro managing everyone's lives and we lose our rights little by little.
