Hi all,
My 4 chicks are nearly 10 weeks old - would love your thoughts on what I’ve got! 2 black Wyns, 1 silver laced Wyn and a brown. First time hatching although have kept chickens before so new to the sexing.

Thankyou NorthWest - I'm inclined to think the bigger black is a roo but just not experienced enough to tell! The two blacks definitely have physical differences to each other - just unsure about the other two so I'm pleased you're thinking hens! Will see what others think! xx

I'm pants at sexing non straight comb chickens However, your golden and silver look like pullets. Of the two blacks one seems to be showing the beginning of wattles and saddle feathers (green circle), the other doesn't either wattles or saddle feathers ( purple circle). Ten weeks is a little early for saddle feathers, but not unheard of... So I say 2 pullets, 1 cockerel, and 1 wait and see.

Agreed. Usually 12-15 weeks. I interpret that as meaning 'on average', but sometimes soon or sometimes longer can be possible depending on breed and individual bird. I have also seen other chicken sources say saddle feathers start growing around 8-10 weeks and are usually noticable by 12-15 weeks.

The bird with the green circle has what appears to be emerging saddle feathers. As the bird matures this could become more apparent. So at this time, I'm thinking that chicken is a cockerel.
