Hello friends.
Could use some help and advice with sexing this little one.
I picked up 4 babies last week, the other 3 were just a day old (and other breeds) and this one was already 2 weeks old so I don’t have that useful tool of comparing their body shapes, height, feathering...Also bummed that the feed store wouldn’t allow you to actually view all of the chicks together and choose because of COVID, they just picked one out of the bin for you and said good luck.

I wasn’t too concerned that she might be a he until today when something about her feathers made me wonder. The other note is her behavior, she’s very aggressive at the feed dish she reared up and raised those cackle feathers when my tiny Buff accidentally surprised her—but I’ve also had girls exhibit these behaviors in the past so I don’t put a ton of weight on it.

I know EE’s can be tough, so all input is welcomed! 🙂

For being 3 weeks, the comb isn’t too wide yet -not that definitive, but at least it isn’t getting obvious.

this year we got 6 EE from the same source we get all our EE from. We have an accidental boy in this batch (now nearly 10 weeks old), and had another accidental EE male in 2018. In both cases, the comb pinked up by 4-5 weeks old. (Not red). This current EE has has a fairly red comb for a few weeks, but it’s not that big of a comb. EE wattles aren’t usually that obvious for awhile, so the comb is a better indicator. In addition, often (but not always) a male EE gets a lot of red coloring on his shoulders. So, our current accidental male EE has very red shoulders!

good luck
