help sexing my 6 week old old

The guy at the feed store said they were all females but I know that doesn't mean much. My buddy has got many chicks from him and has never got a male. So the guy seems to be a good source. But who knows..

You wont be looking for spurs. They wont come until well after you've already figured out if this chick is a male. Best bet is to watch comb, wattles and hackle and saddle feathers. The comb and wattles will probably be your first indicator though.

Here is a thread that discusses those ways. If you read it closely you’ll see it says they may possibly start showing up at 5 weeks. I’ve had some straight from the incubator that screamed cockerel, long heavy legs, upright posture, and an attitude. I’ve had some I wasn’t sure of for 14 weeks or so.

Every chicken, male or female, has spur buds. Usually with hens they don’t amount to much, some you have to look to find them, but some hens can grow some pretty awesome spurs. I just butchered five 23-week-old cockerels. A couple had spur buds just starting to develop. One I had to look for the spur buds, pretty small. I skin the feet and use them in broth so I was looking closely at the legs.

All these are just clues, though some you can tell for sure pretty young. It’s more of an art than a science but you do get better with practice.

Updated picture. Any thoughts?
