These are my first chicks. I got a total of five of them from a lady who said she bought hatching eggs from a hatchery. They are 2 blue, 2 lavender, and 1 black orpingtons. At the time I purchased them, she said that they were 3 weeks old...now they should be 4.5 weeks old, but after browsing some orp chick pics on BYC, I am wondering if they are younger because they do not have much feathers yet....so any help on sexing and age would be great! OH and only one of them has a little tail in case that makes a difference. The rest of them clearly have tail feathers growing in, the feathers are just starting though. Also, their legs (thickness) all looks the same. aqThank you!!
Chick #1 - Blue - Just starting to get tail feathers and feathering around the neck
Chick #2 - Black - the tiniest comb of all, also a tiny bit smaller than the rest and wings not quite as feathered
Chick #3 - Lavender - only one with a tail and the one with the most feathers and least fluff
Chick #4 - Lavender - the pic makes it look like this one has a bigger comb, but the beak is colored lighter on top, the comb looks exactly like the other lavender chick's in the pic above. This one still has fluff, but you can clearly see tail feathers coming in, as well as feathers on top of the wings and around the neck.
Chick #5 - Blue - As with the other blue this one is still pretty fluffy, but has feathered out pretty well on the wings and back. Tail feathers are just beginning to come in.
