If ya'll wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate some help sexing my chicks. They're almost 7 weeks old, and we have 4 easter eggers and 3 light brahmas, (we picked them up from the same batches and same farm @ 1 week). I'm 95% sure two of the eggers are boys and thinking maybe one of the brahmas as well, but I figure I'd let the experts on here weigh in so I don't accidentally rehome any girls (can't have boys in city limits and I'd like to start scoping out prospective homes sooner rather than later). Also, apologies for the bad pics, they were especially mobile while I was trying to take most of them since it was their first day checking out the coop :p. Thanks!

EE #1 - Boy?

EE #2 - Also boy? (Yawning in the 2nd pic, not trying to crow!)

EE #3 - Girl? Starting to get a touch pink at the top of her comb, though no where near as prominent as the chicks above

EE #4 - Girl?

LB #1 - Boy? Small and slow developing compared to our other two LBs and still no "real" tail feathers...although his feet feathers thickened out first.

LB #2 - Girl?

LB #3 - Girl? She was most difficult and I only got one clear shot...size, comb, and tail development are all very similar to LB #2 except her back pattern is more uniform.

Thanks again!

im leaning towards cockerels on the ee's i would wait till they are about 10 weeks and repost...normally i would say 8+ but their coloring has me thinking they are all cockerels

the lb looks like a trio

Hi. Looks like your EEs are a cross with a red colored breed (RIR?). They have the EE pea combs, but the yellow legs and coloring are unusual. Unfortunately, I suspect that you might have 3 cockerels based partly on the dark red patches on the wings of 1, 2 & 4. I am not sure about this, so I hope you get some other opinions. #3 looks like a pullet.

Not familiar with the Brahmas, but they sure are pretty!

I just noticed the new post on this, and this weekend makes them 10 weeks old so I'll get some new pics up. I'm still going with my original guesses on the EE's since the first two have developed larger, very red combs while the other two have redder combs than I would think would be on girls at this age, but compared to the two guys from the same batch, they are noticeably smaller and lighter, although one has an interesting, almost padded, button-like comb (I don't know the proper terminology). They could very well be mixed breed, I bought them from a lady on craigslist that claimed they were Americauna...I could see from the leg color they couldn't be pure but figured they were most likely still EEs, looked healthy, and the price was average for straight run chicks in my area so I wasn't too worried about it.

The brahmas I'm still not sure about. Puffy (LB #2) passed away last week so she doesn't need an id anymore...she displayed a fluffy grumpy posture for a while but everything else seemed normal until she took a very fast downturn and nothing I tried turned her around :(. I started out with four of each and though all of the EEs have been very healthy, I've lost 2 brahmas (one the first week, and the other at week 8), and of the survivors (Goopy, LB #3) has a recurring eye infection that I'll treat, it will disappear for a week or two, then it comes back (always in the same eye, and it's never spread to anyone else) and the other has grown the slowest of any of the chicks...I'm beginning to wonder if the brahmas are just prone to health issues or if I somehow bought a bad batch. I sure do love them though, they have very sweet dispositions. I thought #1 was a boy, but I've been looking at other sexing threads and neither of their combs are as red as other 10 week old male brahmas so maybe he really was a runty she and they'll both be girls...that would be so nice! Hopefully once I get more pics up someone will be expert enough to tell for sure :).

I have a few pics on hand of the EEs, mostly the roos since I'm getting ready to start looking for homes for them.

Here's EE #1 again - now his black feathers have beautiful iridescence and he has a very curious personality:

Here he's upper left with the yogurt-covered beak, EE #2 is to his right, EE #3 has her face in the bowl.

EE #2 is developing very nice cheek puffs and is very gentle and dainty about taking food from our hands. EE #3's comb shot is to the left, it's kind of flat and puffy compared to everyone elses.

A bad shot with one of my bad cats in the background, but the two I think are girls are on the right. EE #3 nearer the mint and EE #4 closest to the camera.

One thing I find interesting is EE1 and EE4 both have the iridescent black feathers, but the one I think is male has a regular face and the one I think is female has cheek puffs, while EE2 and EE3 both have the red coloration but the male has the cheek puffs and the female none. I'll get shots of the girls and the brahmas tomorrow, and I thank you all for your help so far :).

Sorry about your Brahmas. You might be right about the EEs. 1 & 2 look like roos with those big bright combs. Paler looking in the other two, but I'm still not sure. Time will tell....

Iridescent black feathers will appear on both sexes, not just roos. It's supposed to be an indication that they're healthy. I have 5 pullets with varying amounts of black, and they all shine green in the sun. So pretty!

Here are the pics I promised, and thank you! The bit about the iridescence is interesting, the black on my brahmas is very flat, matte compared to the Easter eggers even though all their conditions have been the same since week one.

LB #3 again:

This one LB3 is on the left, LB1 on the right:
