Hello! I am new to this website so forgive me if I post this in the wrong place...my Pekin duck Pabli started limping about a week ago and seemed to be in a lot of pain. I checked the bottom of her feet and I felt a hard bump on the bottom of her foot which I could only assume was bumble foot. I was worried I would make it worse if I treated it myself so I called the vet and made an appointment. Its about three days later and she seems fine?? She always runs around even when she had a limp but now she barely has a limp anymore. What should I do? Should I still take her to the vet?

If you want to take her to a vet you can, although most people tend to treat Bumblefoot at home.

The treatment plan in which you would use depends on the severity of the Bumblefoot. Could you post a picture?

She won’t hold her foot still long enough for me to be able to snap a photo but here is a picture that looks like it.

If I were to see that on one of my birds, I would likely start off soaking the whole foot in warm Epsom salts to help loosen the core, and kill off any bacteria. Repeat the soaking daily until the core is fairly loose, then, using a scalpel, and pair of tweezers, gently pry the core out like a scab.

Once the core is out, apply an antibacterial ointment or cream to the area, wrap with gauze, and bandage until the wound heals over. Correct any environmental issues like hard, sharp, dirty bedding substrate to prevent the chance of infection from occurring.
