Help, Sick 6 old month Roo

Update: Because he hasn't been eating today, I made him a soup of oatmeal and cous cous wet down with warm oregano leaf and green leaf tea with a couple of drops of ACV. He loved it!! Will wait an see how he is this evening.

Unfortunately, I live in very rural Northern Portugal, there is no local vet, when chickens or any animal/pet for that matter get sick here, they cull them! I have layers pellets that contain a chicken wormer so I will switch them to that for 7 days but if it is Coccidiosis then unless medication is readily available for shipping from UK then I am out of luck! He is no worse this morning, I will inspect poop again for eggs or blood and go from there today.

Glad to hear that he ate something!

It's good that you have the feed that contains the wormer - try that to see if it helps.
The only time you might see worms in the stool would be when they have roundworms, sometimes you may be able to see tapeworms if there is a heavy infestation. The eggs you won't be able to see.

Coccidiosis does not always present with blood in the stool. There are 9 different strains and only 1 or 2 show as blood. Unless you have testing, you will have to go by symptoms that include lethargy, loose stool that can be bloody or has mucous, fluffed up/unkempt appearance and going off feed.
Since you get supplies from the UK look for Coxoid or other coccidiostats that contain Amprolium.

I am going through fowl pox now (will post pictures). I don't think that's what you're dealing with, but I could be wrong. My bird started out with what looked like a flesh colored abscess

, which grew very large within a few days, then they multiplied quickly. Covering her eyes, beak and feet. They would ooze puss, start to dry, and then new lesions would form. They are just now (8 weeks later) starting to turn dark as they dry up.

Just in case it is something contagious (fowl pox is not curable and is highly contagious), I'd isolate him from the others. If you can get some antibiotics to prevent a secondary infection, that could be helpful.

Bless it. She looks horribly miserable. Two of my originals got dry fowl pox, I think it was contracted from mosquito bites, but theirs was never as bad looking as your poor baby. When I got new chicks this past spring, I vaccinated them at 8 weeks in hopes of avoiding the fowl pox. I hope your chick’s clears up soon.

View attachment 1551148 Ok I think that shows him a little better
I wonder if those are tiny, almost microscopic sized, blood sucking bugs? With him burying his head in things his comb/wattles must be itching or hurting severely.

I do not know, but wonder if you could use some kind of baby wipe and try to “wash/rub” off whatever that is? At the very least maybe spray some Vetricyn on the affected areas or rub some on.

I so hope he gets better. I hate to see such a sweet cockerel in such misery. Now mine, on the other hand, are not miserable. They dish out the misery.

You should be able to get Coccivex where you are Deblett. I can get it here.

This was actually my neighbors baby turkey, who took up residence on my property with her mother (their dog was attacking the birds). When I saw that the baby was in distress, I discussed it with my neighbor who declined to treat the bird. So, I took it to the vet. Since then, she's been housed in my living room. Since then, my neighbor and I have bonded and he gifted me 20 chicks, and 2 "turklings". Everything happens for a reason!

I drove into town today to a local vetinary clinic, but turned out it was shut due to local public holiday, we have a lot of 'LOCAL' public holidays here! So he will have to wait till monday now, then I can ask if Coccivex is available - Thank you

I have to admit, it certainly doesn't look like what your poor bird has. It started as a few black spots, they wern't critters - I checked, but then they starting popping up all over his comb and wattles and now his comb has tuned ashen almost looks like fungul infection but started as black spots, no oozing, always been dry. So possible bites but not sure why its turned whitish/grey now? His 2 girls are absolutely fine, I can separate them during the day but I only have 1 small wooden coop for night time unless I shut them up at night and let him roost on an outside roost - it is perfectly safe from prey - would that be ok? it's not cold here!
