Hi guys, my Andalusian isn’t herself. She is very lethargic and unbalanced. Her comb is purple on the ends and has a lump in the middle. She has had this a couple of times but seems to get better after a day. Do you know what she might have?

Purple on the comb tend to indicate a problem with blood circulation. Could be she has something wrong with her heart, especially if it's a reoccurring thing. Not having good blood flow would cause a lack of oxygen which could cause her to become dizzy. I'm just guessing though.

Do you have any pictures of her comb? The lump sounds strange. Can you see a vet? I would give her fluids with some electrolytes or 2-3 ml of Poultry NutriDrench daily. Offer her some wet chicken feed with a tsp of plain yogurt, and a little chopped egg. Mix only what she will take that day.

Her problem could be with her heart or possibly a fungal respiratory infection, but reproductive problems such as internal laying can cause all sorts of symptoms. Most times we don’t know how to diagnose them until we get a necropsy (autopsy) after death.

She is pretty, and I think it just looks like a lump when her comp is flopped over. Very large combed birds can turn a little blue on the tips or back end when they get stressed or dehydrated. I would keep trying to get fluids into her. If possible get some droppings checked for coccidiosis and worms at your vet’s office. Try taking a small bowl of feed, add a lot of water, some chopped egg, and a tsp of plain yogurt. Mix only enough for the day and discard leftovers.

Thankyou, I have the vet coming on Monday to see my pony so I’ll ask her to check.

It could be, and she might have been egg bound or suffering from a reproductive disorder. I would just keep giving her TLC, and also a dose of a human calcium tablet or a Tums. You can give it in the back of her throat or crush it into some egg or yogurt. Is she on a layer feed? How old is she now?

She is laying but not sure how old she is
