Help...sick bird. Need to put her down humanly.

Hi everybody. I have a sick R/I Red. She was the fattest, heaviest bird I had, now she's lost a lot of weight, isn't eating and doesn't move around a lot. She doesn't show any obvious symptoms, except the loss of appetite and decreased activity level. No drainage, no runny nose or eyes. I have some Duramycin-10 that I may start all of them on tomorrow, but I think she is too far gone. Anyone have any medication recommendation suggestions? And if need be, a way to put her down, without causing her pain or anguish, and is humane, I.e...not wringing her neck. I'd appreciate any input.

I recommend that you visually inspect her for lice/mites, especially around the vent area. Also purchase Safeguard liquid goat wormer and dose her 1/2cc orally undiluted to deworm her. Worm all your birds while you're at it. Do NOT give any of them duramycin 10 if they are NOT showing respiratory symptoms.

You might want to put her in a dog crate for a few days so that you can check her out all over. I would do as Dawg suggested plus check her crop to see if it is emptying, or if she is showing symptoms of sour crop, diarrhea, check her vent, and anything else that looks out of the ordinary. Is she laying, or does she have a hard or squishy abdomen? Vitamins and probiotics might help.

You can find Safe-guard at TSC-Tractor Supply Company. It's probably available at most farm/feed stores. BTW-Safe-guard can cause issues with feathers if she's molting.

Most farmstores carry packets of electrolytes and vitamin mixes to add to water. Valbazen is another great wormer, and can be given during a molt without feather damage. Repeat any wormer in 10 days.

Valbazen is given straight undiluted. Pull down on the wattles, squirt a tiny bit in, release the wattles for swallowing, and repeat. The dosage is about 1/2 ml for most birds weighing 6 lb. Each ml equals 113 mg, and dosage is 20 mg per every 2.2 lb or roughly 10mg per pound. You can give 1/4 ml for bantam, 1/2 for standard, 3/4 ml for large, and so on.
