Our littlest chick (about 5 weeks old) is sick.
I noticed that her eyes were shut today and I brought her inside to put her in the inculator. She is very sluggish (not even peeping) and she seems to be breathing heavily with her mouth open. I fed her scrambled egg mixed with electrolytes and garlic powder about an hour and a half ago and have been dripping water with electrolytes into her mouth every half hour or so. I wiped her eyes with a warm rag and they appear to be swollen, no mucus or crusty stuff. No mucus or running from nostrils either.

It has been wet and rainy all day and although she wasn't wet, I thought maybe the weather could have contributed? Also, the mosquitos have been fierce, clouds of them at times bugging the birds. Our older birds had pox last summer, but with little to no symptoms except the spots.

What should I do?? Help! She is the littlest of the bunch and we just saved her from a near drowning a few weeks ago :(

...thought to add that one of our older chicks (about 10 weeks) has one eye swollen shut in the same manner as the littlest one. She is eating, drinking and behaving normally though.

You maybe should speak to Dawg - he is an expert... I do so hope that this is not Coryza!

Best of luck.. see if Dawg is online tonight

Thank you, I'll check later to see.
The symptoms aren't totally in line with coryza. No sinus swelling or drainage, no facial swelling, only on the eyelids.
The other chicken with a closed eye has had her eye closed for almost a week now with no other symptoms. I thought it was a mosquito bite. The other eye looks fine.
*sigh*
I hope she survives.

I'm going to bump this up to see if anyone can offer advice. Chick is still sick, I'd say about the same. She eats (scrambled egg watered down with electrolytes and garlic) and drinks through the dropper but makes no attempts at moving around. She opens her beak with every breath, but I can't see any crust or mucus in her nostrils. Her eyes are still closed and slightly swollen, no other swelling. She did poop earlier, looks normal.

Every time I go to check on her I am sure I will find her dead, but she seems to be hanging on. I just wish for an improvement in her symptoms :(

Just wanted to update, our chick died last night. I still have no clue what happened... the other chick with one closed eye is doing fine, eating & drinking normally.
