Hello all. I have a 3 month old drake that is not getting up.
I came down to put them in for the evening after some free ranging and he won't get up.
I have poked at him- which he normally doesn't let me touch him and he attempted to stand up but wasn't able too
It looks like something with his right leg.

I did notice in the past his right leg seemed to wobble a bit as well as his wing would droop. But as far as I could see that was only once or twice. And that was weeks ago he's been okay since.
They eat purina flock feed and get meal worms as snacks. Today they had some bread and some watermelon.

Any ideas?

This is the one we were debating using as a meat duck- but I still don't want him injured

Maybe a sprain or have you checked to see if it's broken? If sprain rest will help. Soaking the leg in warm Epsom salt water can help too. or compresses.

If broken a vet would be best.

I was able to pick him up to put him in and put food and water next to him. He hobbles if he tries to move and it looks like he's holding up this one leg.
Poor baby!

I would feel around his hip.
sounds like it could have popped out of the socket.
or just bruised it..
either is painful.
I won't tell you to pop it back in,
but personally I would if it were my duck.

I did feel up and down the leg and compared it to the other side everything feels okay.
Maybe a slight bit swollen but otherwise seems okay.

OK, then, tell your son to quit chasing the birds.
Yes- I agree. He's not a bad kid- he lovessss these birds.
Especially the hurt one that's "his"
However the hurt one (Henry) had a chickens wing in his mouth, he was trying to get him to let go of the poor chicken.
The drakes have been bullying my chickens lately. I'm not really sure why- they all have been raised together.
I assume possible sexual frustration? They're only three months old so I'm not sure when that all kicks in
