My female duck was doubt floating low in the water. Soaking wet. She is now inside under a heat lamp. She's weak and her bill has some red on the top. She keeps making sucking movements and sounds with her bill. I don't know what's wrong, and it's not looking good! :( any help would be appreciated greatly!!

Do you have a vet you can take her to?

Do you have other ducks? Drakes?

Other animals?

Is she pooping, drinking, eating?

Is there something in her throat, or any sign that she has been choked? If so, you may need some flexible half inch tubing, or an unused, unsharpened pencil with an eraser.

She perked up a bit a few minutes ago and started cleaning herself a bit and flapped her wings once. I fed her a bit of celery and she took a little bit ( she never turns celery down). We have one drake as well. They were raised together and are very close but I have a feeling he did this to her.. Maybe he got a bit rough while trying to mate? He gets quite pushy with her..

I haven't seen her poop yet and she is falling over when she tries to walk but she is standing no problem.. She is really cold.. I dont think there is a vet I can take her to at this hour but I can look for one tomorrow if she is still like this

That is what I suspect. Keep Mr. Amorous away from her for a while, and I mean at least days. If and when you reintroduce them, watch him closely.

Her life is actually in danger. We have no way of knowing initially which drakes will be too rough. But she needs you to protect her. Getting more females might help. But sometimes a drake will pick on one duck. Just give her time to recover, and think about what makes sense for you.

Thank you for your help..I am hoping she will make a full recovery. That was scary! Now I have to figure out how to separate them..could be interesting!

She also keeps shaking her head, like she does when she has grass stuck in her mouth...she is breathing fine so I dont think she is choking

She may have come very near drowning. Keep her warm, let her have some food and clean water nearby, in a very safe place. Do you have a dog kennel or small cozy space you can keep her overnight? Good that you are giving her some TLC.

A little vitamins-electrolytes in her water would be nice if you have it. She may be in shock, so be sure to keep her warm and dry tonight. And try talking to her a bit if you haven´t already.
