I posted awhile back on the splash and everyone said possibly a pullet. Just wanted to follow up on her and check everyone's opinion on the black one. I was fairly certain it was a cockerel but I still question it at times so figured I'd let you all take a crack. Thanks. :)

Oh, they are 22 weeks old.

Well, straight comb isn't part of the standard... Still thinking female... on both. Though the splash is sporting some longer mullet type feathers on the back of the crest... that I would debating/watching as they are so subjective. It might just be father shafts that haven't come off yet or wet feathers. But I don't see ear lobes to well and they are usually easier to see on boys.

I would say nearly all of my males are mating or displaying very boy behavior by your stated age. I never have to second guess boys this long... so if you are second guessing still... probably females.

Your black one is probably blue actually... Silkies are the hardest to tell the two apart (because of the darker tops but the body and solid part of the wings tells a different story)... I thought I had blacks for almost 2 years until I got a black and side by side it is noticeable. Does you blue one have a straight comb too? That one really looks like a pullet as far as I can tell. In fact... if your blue gal WAS a black boy... you would see shiny green tail feathers and a bit on the wings as well. :pop

:wootWhat a great reply, thank you!! That makes sense about it being a blue as I have a pullet that I always think is so much shinier and more "black" than the one I posted. Now I know it's because they're totally different colors! I have an older blue rooster that Is much lighter than that so I never dreamed that one was blue. I haven't seen any of mine mate, crow, etc. I assumed it was because I had an older roo that was more dominant. Now I'm more hopeful. The blue one is just much bigger than the black (I think) pullet that just assumed it was male.

so, just to clarify....you think both of these are pullets? The one on the right is the one I posted about today... the one on the left I posted several weeks ago and was told it was a pullet. Thanks again :)
