My Broody was killed by a snake and it ate all but 2 eggs. There are still room temp so I brought them in and put them in a basket with hay and a heat lamp will this work they are do June 5th.

I caught it and killed it and saw he had the eggs inside him I tried to get them but he cracked the eggs and all the chicks came out.. So what would be better for me to do then I don't want to lose these last 2 eggs..

If you can get ahold of an incubator, that would be best. Check on your state thread to see if anyone can help you out. If you can keep the temp around 100 degrees, and starting around June 3, increase the humidity by misting the hay (but not the eggs) you might stand a chance. I'm glad you got the snake. Was it a poisonous one?

a chick in egg has a heart beat around 260 bpm as the egg cools this drops to preserve energy while the hen is away. If you got to it before it hit 60 bpm and quickly warmed it up then it will recover. If the heartbeat dropped below 60 then it probably stopped and no amount of care will work. The speed the heart beat drops is based on temp and time so you could put a egg in a fridge for 1 minute and it should survive but 5 degrees low for a hour wont. (read from a university report)

If you had a incubator I would suggest incubating for a day or two then seeing if theres any movement but I wouldn't risk using a heat lamp on whats probably a lost cause. At least change out the hay to non flammable material as the chicks are comfortable in the egg then don't need the hay.

I have had eggs sit at room temperature for 6+ hours because of an electrical outage. I restarted the incubator immediately after discovering it was turned off. One week later, over 50% of the chicks still hatched. So, you have a chance.

Thanks for the advice I decided to take to a friend down the road who has a broody not sitting on any eggs so hopefully they will hatch this week..

Keep us updated. I'm so sorry this happened. I'd be heart broken.
