Help? Some soft shell/shell less some not but hear me out..

Is there any suggestions on what to do to keep them out of these eggs?? I'm catching them half the time trying to eat them and I already try to constantly check, even get up earlier and still miss the egg before they get to at leat a bit of it. I have fake eggs in there and they leave them alone but with these not having a real shell I'm at a loss.
Same here. We had a few soft-shelled and shell-less eggs early on, and they pecked at them, I think in sort of a “what on earth is this” way and ate them, but not once have they broken a shelled egg.

Diet has a very limited affect on egg shells, it is much more genetic. And unless you are starving them, it really has none. What you are feeding them is good enough. I have never given the vitamins in my life.

People who are a bit inexperienced worry about odd eggs, and I think that is because they have always boughten store bought eggs which are highly sorted. Eggs with meat spots, or rough shelled, or soft shells are not used. Instead these eggs are sold to production companies that use them in some product they are producing like cakes.

One of the problems on BYC is that people do not post about normal every day stuff. They post about concerns, so that often times, new posters start to worry about all these things that can go wrong. And the wrong tends to be the exception not the rule.

So don't race out there, let it go. They may eat a few, but it won't cause egg eating.

Thank-you for taking the time.

I do get worried because well you know google not always your friend and you are right being new doesnt help, not because I'm worried eggs aren't pretty just that I'm doing the best I can for them.

just that I'm doing the best I can for them.
You are, you are doing the best that you can.

Do know, that sometimes chickens do die. Generally speaking, beyond your control. It happens.

Keep chickens with food, water, and shelter with protection from the wind, safe from predators. That is really all you can do for them. We are not God, everything does die eventually. Do not borrow guilt. It will destroy the pleasure you have in them.
