My husband noticed something on our bantam hen. On her chest there seems to be this hard yellowish foul smelling clump on her. We cut off what we thought was poop stuck to her; but it seem to be more than that...it seems like maybe hardened puss maybe or a growth? we are stumped. We stopped cutting it out since we are not sure what it is and don;t want to hurt her. Strangely no too long ago i saw what i thought was yolk on our eggs...I checked everywhere in to coop to be sure no hen was eating her eggs...and there was no sign of that. And then the "yolky" looking stuff was gone. All seemed well; now I think it may be whatever I see all crusty and hardened on our hen now. I really have no clue what it can be. Any thoughts? I will try to post a pic soon...if i can figure out how. Its roundish and about the size of a small bouncy ball.

Chickens LOVE to soak in warm water - a belly bath. Can you sit with her and soak her for a good while and see if it either loosens up, or you can clean the ick off well enough to see what it is? Just rub it gently occasionally to get whatever softens up off until you get to the "bottom" of it.

Yes my husband i were thinking that. How do I exactly to do that? put her in a basin? how do you get her to stay in it?

You'll need to sit with her...but put her in quite warm water up to her sides. You'll have to keep a little pressure on her back until she settles down, but all my girls LOVE this so once she relaxes, you can probably just sit with her.

So we soaked our dear Ruby to figure out what going on...although I'm still stumped, heres a pic maybe someone can help...please antideas

I do not know...however, for the moment, at least keep some neosporin on it. I don't know if it will help, but it won't hurt. Looks icky!
