I have tried hobbling the legs together but it just isn't working, The little bugger keeps getting out of it. What else can I do? Do they eventually fix themselves? My husband things I should try small rubber bands. Will those work?

I've heard of small rubber bands working well and band-aids too, what did you try to hobble them with that he got out of?
What flooring is the baby on, and is he by himself? Grippy shelf liner over newspaper and solo recovery for a little bit so he can get sorted without getting trampled over will help you as well I think.
I couldn't find the thread I've seen before with good details on hobbling them for splayed legs, maybe someone else has the link saved and can help.
Good luck!
Jessie

I don't really know what works most successfully for this condition. I've only had one chick that ever had this, and a Curad band-aid wrap didn't work for me. However, there are a few other different methods you could try....

VetRap Technique:

Pipe Cleaner Cuffs:

sadly with Coturnix, splayed legs usually do not have good results. I used to use little yogurt cups and put the chick in there so they could eat and drink without moving but never had a case of success.

So I moved him into his own brooder with grippy liner. I take him out every few hours so he can get water and some food from the main brooder. He is such a little trooper. Hopefully this will help him some.

Sycamore ~ dental floss. It was probably due more to my inexperience than him being crafty. It is so hard to hobble button quails, lol!

I can only imagine! Our cots were two weeks old when we got them, and had such itty bitty legs. How old is this little guy now? Is he showing any signs of improvement?
Cheers,

Sadly no. He got one leg under him but there must be something wrong with the other leg. I put him back in with the others last night and he does fine but this morning I noticed the others were starting to pick on him. I'm going to set him up in the quail ER (as I call it, lol) and give him a few buddies so he is not lonely and decide what to do this weekend. He is such a beautiful little quail and I hate the thought of culling him.
