Help! Swollen hot bare belly

Anyone know what this is or what to do?

Ouch, um no i can't really help. But try to get a better look and pic of her belly. Make sure there are no cuts or abrasions that might be infected. My first thought with hot and swollen is infected. It would probably be wise to qurintine her until things are resloved, the bright red could lead to a pecking injury by the other hens.

My chickens are free range so idk. They all just go take turns in the nest boxes but idk who lays. I'm new to raising chickens so...

Is the grass long where they free range?

First thing you should do is check them over for lice and or mites...might be better to do at night when they go to roost, using a flashlight.

Does her belly feel hard or squishy?

No. It was before the hurricane but it's all mowed now for a couple weeks.

well I really didn't want to press it so I'll have to check that and get back with you. I think on the squishy side though. It's just so big and really hot

Also I treat them for mites periodically but I'll check again. She looks extremely healthy otherwise. Some of the chickens do have fowl pox though, but I don't think it has anything to do with that.

If her belly feels full and squishy I would guess that she is laying internally and has an infection..the warmth of it.
