Baby silkie was born with a bump (fluid filled) on her neck and a swollen stomach. She is breathing fine and active. The bump on the neck is starting to go down.
Anybody have an answer for this? I'm having the same issue. I had a similar issue yesterday and the same thing is happening. The bump is going down but belly is still puffy. This chick did not position correctly and also had what seemed to be bacteria going on in the egg. Sort of a greenish brown colored membrane. Between not rotating the right way (trying to open the shell with the top of the beak) shrink wrapping, and then almost drying to a sticky mess of immobility from all the gunk and needing to be washed off in a pan, I'll be surprised if this one survives. The chick was very lethargic and low on juice from the struggle, so I've been feeding it egg yolk. I'm watching closely because a wing is also slightly incorrectly developed. I wouldn't doubt some organ issues may arise, but the wife has spoken and she wants me to try. Culling is not an option. My last layer has stopped laying, so this is my only shot with this batch and 2 have gone south already. She's getting strong enough to walk around the box in the brooder today, and even started cleaning herself off. She's also drinking water now pretty heavily. Anyway, fluid bubble on the neck and swelling? Is it from bacteria?
