I am a rookie to the chicken world, we have 8 buff orpingtons and 4 black ostralops.......the were all born new years weekend which should make them around 9 weeks...most are getting big but theres 2 or 3 that are lagging behind but overall there feathers are getting full......my questions is this...I recently moved them from a brooder to there outside coop.....which has a small room with some hay on the wood floor...the temp at night dips into the low 40's F.....is this to cold for them?

Australorps and Orphingtons are both cold hardy and should do well if their feathers are in (they should be by now). However, hay does not offer very good insulation so you may want to put in several inches of wood shavings on the floor. Also make sure that the coop is draft free and the chicks should be fine. If they appear stressed by the temperature you can install a temporary heat lamp until the temperature improves.
