HELP! THE EGGS ROLLED OUT ON DAY 16

Just a catch up.......so, all four eggs rolled out and seemed to get stone cold. I took everyone's advise and put them back under the hen and crossed everything. On day 22 two teeny weeny bantam chicks appeared and the hen continues to be a wonderful mother.
The other two eggs were in fact not fertilized or non viable anyway. We broke them open on day 24 (the hen would not leave them and the surviving chicks were getting hungry and bored with the TV, you can only watch so much Sesame Street) and found them to be yolks in tact.
So, a happy ending! It just goes to show that patience mother nature need to go together!
Thank you every body for all the help.
Just one more thing......how old should the chicks be before joining the flock. The books and web all give differing advise. Any practical knowledge would be most welcome.
