HELP..the flies are HORRIFIC!

Here at our farm we use Preditor Wasps from Arabico. used them for years, and they cut our fly population down to almost nothing. they also sell a Solar fly trap that uses yeast as a base that also works well

I seem to be having the same problem. I just bought the hanging fly trap. The 2-liter bottle kind that has the packet mix with water and viola. Reusable too. They seem to be doing their job already.

I was told not to put them by our back door because they attract flies so I hung one on a tree by the coop and one on another tree by my trash cans. Doesnt help that ive got a few meaties. Talk about stench.

Cant wait to rid myself of those.

The pop bottle traps work very well, but they very soon stink. In fact, they will gag a maggot. Put them as far away from the house as possible.

Flies amaze me. They will not land on fake sugar. I don't know why? Also, they love to land on the expensive Flexogen garden hose, but will not land on the cheap plastic one. What do flies know that we don't?

I am not a fan of using diatomaceous earth due to the risk to the lungs if inhaled and I have yet to see anyone wear a mask while using DE. I have worked with DE professionally; gloves and masks are required--for a reason. DE once in the lungs stays in the lungs. So, if you like DE, may I suggest you protect yourself and don't allow any dust clouds (no matter how minor) near your animals.

Aside from DE, I am a big fan of the fly traps that are sticky rolls. I keep them in my coop and when the weather turns nice, I hang them every 2-3 feet on the fence of my coop. They are affordable, highly effective, and I don't find any downside . . . well, I suppose they aren't recyclable, but they can be burned.

I agree with the precaution of DE dust. People can be too casual about their applying it. When I apply it, the applicator, a cheap flour sifter, is a few inches off the floor and no wind. Then I am out of there.

question....If DE is so bad for lungs how can a chicken dust in it and not be effected by it.....When they dust in it they stir up a big cloud of the stuff and seem to have no effect from it...except to be bug free.....just wondering??????

I've been using the bag traps for flies. It has a little tube of stinky liquid you pop inside the bag. The flies love it, though I do have to change them about once a month b/c they aren't reusuable.......however they are very efffective. I get them from my local co- op.
