I have noticed from the search that we need a lot more pics of roosters or hens with scared/ scabbed up combs. There are not enough pics of this to tell weather roosters/hens are wounded from fighting/pecking or if they have pox. Please post your pics. Thanks.

A fungal infection with what appears to be resolving frostbite: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=154581

Frostbite
with what appears to be a secondary infection (pics illustrate why open waterers can be a problem at below freezing temps - wattle immersion): https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=122969

Abrasions/lacerations
that can be directly attributed to fighting: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=188793

Early
stage Fowl Pox (Dry) on hen: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=194191
Though
pox lesions wll usually have regular margins and often appear in locations where beaks can't go it can sometimes be hard to ID (why it is good to observe chooks on regular basis for changes): See pages 1 & 3:

These are a few available with the SEARCH function (there are more). It is a good idea to save all pics/threads that are of high quality, to your own machine (folks break their image links quite a bit).
