Hi all

I thought my 4 week old silkie had pasty but so ibwent to clean it and noticed it wasn't and it started to bleed. What is it?

Chick is eating drinking and healthy otherwise. Running around happy.

Ok did some research
is this her belly button? Is there some I should or shouldn't do.
Please help really worried

I'm having a hard time figuring out where this is on the bird. With our first chicks I also cleaned up "pasty butt" only to realize that what I thought was a bit of poop was an umbilical cord or sorts! Horror! I was sure I'd killed her.

I'd suggest a cleansing with warm water if you haven't already and a bit of antibiotic ointment like triple antibiotic or Neosporin. Keep the bedding as clean as you can and keep it away from the others if they peck at it. Try to fasten a bit of gauze with ointment over it's belly. An upside down "chicken saddle"? An old post showed one completely exposed. They used a band aid.:

thank you for responding.

I checked it this morning and it did look a bit better. I felt so awful for trying to clean it and pull it off last night.
I will try to get better pictures of it tonight when I get home.

Again thank you for your advise.
