Color is not going to be a deciding factor. It is all about the barring. The males will continue to grow feathers that concentrate the barring in dense patterns. The hens feathers will grow out with only one or two bars initially and then be replaced by feathers with faint or no barring. You can see on Zazouse's photos above of hens, they still have some of that single barring on some feathers at that age.
And I would have commented earlier that it looked about two months old based on barring but I did not want to rock the boat too much.
