Hi everyone;

I'm a newby to chickens..only had them a few weeks.I got a problem with my Americauna.Hope someone has some ideas.

I have a rooster and 5 hens.On saturday, were were away overnight, and when we got back Sunday morning, one of the girls was outside the coop, dug into a hole with her head tucked in the corner and her eyes closed.Her feathers on her back had been picked at and there were a few small blood dots.She seemed quite cold...don't know if she was there all night??
Anyway, we took her in the coop and all she wanted was water, she drank and drank, no interest in food,.That went on all day and the next.We separated her from the rest, because they seemed hostile towards her and would attack if they got close enough.
I called previous owner for advice as she knows the personality etc.She suggested egg yolk , yogurt, oatmeal..whatever I could get in her.
She ate a small amount of egg yolk , the second day, in the morning and the evening.i was told to put cayenne pepper in one which I did and she ate all of that.
The P.O. came over on tuesday and brought strawberry yogurt, her fav apparently, chick starter and ACV with mother for the water.
She eats the yogurt mixed with chick starter mostly if you help her, and drinks her ACV water
The thing is ...all she mostly wants to do is sleep, or be held. We've had a heat light on her since tuesday.
I called a few people around here that were suggested to me and so did the P.O. ,people she knew, everyone thinks that she is just severely traumatized and needs alone time and rest.

We had first thought she might be egg bound, but she laid one on Monday morning, but none since. I worry because she seems to be losing weight, and I don't want to traumatize her more by forcing her too much.
Does anyone know or have experience with traumatized chickens??? Or have any other ideas???

Since we weren't here when all this started we have no idea what went on.Don't know if she's sick or why they started attacking her.

I can't spend all day holding her and helping her eat.Should i just let her sleep and eat when she wants??? I don't want her to starve to death.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Have you tried putting some vitamins/electrolites in her water? That might give her a boost to snap her out of her shock....Anything could be wrong though. Unfortunately, chickens will pick up on a weakness, and they will be ruthless.......it's just their nature.
