A small possum dug into our coop at 3 am this morning. It killed one of my 12 week old pullets and maimed another. She has several deep bites on her tail. Of course it's Sunday and the vets are all closed, but is there an injectable antibiotic that I could get at Tractor Supply, like Durvet? I've been irrigating the wounds with saline and iodine but she's going to need something intravenous. TIA!

There are not many antibiotics available in feed stores. You might call TSC and ask if they have FishMox capsules on the shelf. That is amoxicillin, and you can give half of one twice a day in food. Can you post pictures of the wound? Chlorhexidene, betadine, or Vetericyn are good to use on bad wounds twice a day, floowed by applying plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment twice a day.

Not a great image--I wanted to let her chill out after the injection, which she was not happy about. the orange hue is from the iodine I used this AM (it was the only thing I had on hand).
