My 4.5 years old bantam buff cochin had fowl pox that started since 3 months ago. Most of the scabs fell off. In addition, I suspect, that whenever she had a wound in her feet, she will develop an infection. Last month, I tried to perform a minor foot surgery on the reddish part of her skin, that seems infected. After, I gave her amoxicillin 1 week after the surgery, the once reddish part looks normal. However, 2 weeks ago, another part that seems infected started to appear. After I checked it today, it became 3x bigger than what it was 2 weeks ago. In addition, she can't use the affected leg normally since 2 months ago.
I am sure, that she recovered from fowl pox quickly when she was 1 year old. Therefore, based on the information given above, I suspect that she has a weakened immune system, that is caused by either a virus or fungi. I suspect the latter is the reason, since she doesn't show any other signs of disease that can indicate viral infection. In addition, her companion birds in the pen doesn't show any signs of illness.
I already gave her amoxicillin at a dosage of 125mg/kg twice daily for 5 consecutive days 2x since 3 months ago. She might have eaten a fungi from the papaya fruit, which could have caused her to have a weakened immune system. Do you guys know an over the counter medicine that treats fungal infections in chickens that can cause a weakened immune system?
