I have suddenly found myself a turkey owner...husband came home today to find this guy wandering around with the chickens. At first we assumed he (calling it a he) was a wild turkey but he is very colorful, and as you can see he let me pick him up! SO now he's in the coop pecking around with the girls. My chickens are visible from the road and I wonder if someone dumped him out, or he could have even wandered from a neighboring farm...if he's not wild. Like I said, can't imagine a wild turkey would allow me to hold it! He has a lot of cream to white markings, he's much lighter colored than any wild turkey I've ever seen.

So what do you guys think? Any ideas on what kind of turkey, age, maybe a sex? How the heck do you take care of a turkey!? Any info is appreciated!

Yes, I am in the coop in my work dress clothes in high heels wrangling a turkey! LOL country girls!

Is that a good (and friendly) breed? I googled it, they are very similar. If it is a jake, will he hurt my chickens?

Hubby just went outside to check on him...he has made himself at home in the house up on the roost with the chickens! LOL what a trip...what a strange day! It's not every day a turkey shows up at your door...not at my house anyway!

You might want to find out if he came from a nearby farm, since he's soooo friendly. Maybe they don't want him anymore, but they also might wonder what happened to him. If he has to be returned, you could always get a few for yourself!!

I can't believe he's that sweet. Mine like me, but they don't want to be cuddled...except for the hens, but they're a bit confused~LOL
