I decided to expand my backyard flock to include turkeys. Lovely birds by the way! Anyway, I purchase some mixed breed heritage turkey poults. One of the turkey poults was a bit of a runt and had been pecked in the eye and In the head. He has a permanent bald spot and his right eye is a bit forward facing. His left was the one with a large white star. I bought him for half price with the promise I would care for his eye. His eye is better at this point, but just in past two days I noticed that his nostrils appeared larger than normal! Am I imagining things or did his nostrils swell? What might that mean? Is it because he is a runt and slow grower? Part of his past injury? I just want to make sure he did not catch anything. I got him at two angles. Please help!

Oh, and is he a bronze?

That looks like a respiratory infection, and it looks like he *may* be broad breasted bronze based on the apparent width of the breast.

Is he gasping, are his eyes gooey, is he flinging snot or sneezing or wheezing? If so, you will need to run a course of treatment with antibiotics. Tylan 200 is my medication of choice, the higher strength allows for smaller doses.

I'd check with the Emergencies/Illness/Injury thread first, though...there are some very skilled diagnosticians there.

Of course I picked him up today and he immediately flung snot on me. Well I have medication for a respiratory infection for the chickens when they had it a time ago that should work on him. Before, he had been sneezing but not drippy. Thank you so much for your advice! Here is another picture of him today to include a fully body shot. Maybe you can tell me if he really is a broad breasted. He was supposed to be a heritage standard bronze. But sometimes the feed store mixes in chicks accidentally.

He is squeezing his wonky eye shut. He has a habit of doing that. That was his pecked eye when he was a baby. The damaged area has since healed to just a vague cloudy speck, but old habit die hard and he still squints. Again, thank you for the information!

Yes, with the full shot she does look like a standard bronze with swollen sinuses. :)

That was kind of you to stick up for the underdog, I hope she does well for you.

The "she" is a guess...no adult feathers to tell for certain, but the slim shanks and tapered head suggest girl.

The way she is feathering out along her neck with a shallower balding patch makes me think that he is a she too. Her name is Gimlet. Her companions are Whiskey, a bourbon red, and Godiva, a blue royal palm. Blame Whiskey for the drink names. Thank you for your help! I have started her on antibiotics. She has had such a rough start. I was sincerely hoping she wasn't a broad breasted breed. That would definitely change her life plan with us. Thanks again!
