Help!!!!! Turkey incubating & hatching information with pics are greatly needed....

Jessshan8 & AmericanMom your turks are absolutely beautiful!!!! I believe ours are bronz ( but not 100% sure ).......so I guess the next question is how often do they normally lay during the winter???? Are they even actually supposed to lay during the winter time??? And if I don't take the eggs from her will they be ok outside if she isn't laying on them all the time???( they are in a coop with a heat lamp ) if she does actually hatch during the winter am I supposed to take the hatchlings & bring them into our inside brooder???I am sorry for all the questions but this is our first round with turks so we are not sure.

Mine are only 7.5 months old so I don't expect to see any eggs til march or april at the earliest.. From what I have read depending on breed some lay ealier in the year and some later, the BR's from what I understand lay later.. I don't believe they lay through the winter but just spring and summer, maybe fall... If your hen is laying in winter I wouldn't leave the eggs outside as they may become to cold waiting for her to lay a clutch and be un hatchable. If it were me and my hen was laying right now I would be gathering her eggs. If she did some how be able to hatch out a brood in winter I would take the poults as they are very susceptible to cold.

Ok I am asking because we have 2 eggs already in the incubator & we just put another heat lamp out in the coop( now there are 2 in there ) so it didn't get too cold in there for the eggs.... I am so unsure of this whole situation.... We are still letting them out during the day... Should we keep them locked up in the coop so she is more likely to lay on the eggs she is laying????? is there a certain amount she will lay before she sits on them to hatch them???

Again, I am not speaking from experience but fro what I have read, I think she will continue to lay until she has a clutch, maybe take hers and replace them with dummy eggs??

I wonder how many are in a normal clutch....... I will have to look into dummy eggs.......... We'd hate for good fertilized eggs to go to waste. This is such a new learning experience for us...lol..... We are on day 2 of the incubation of the 2 eggs we did take.. We will have to just see what the incubator does & see if they hatch & watch & wait to what she does.... In the mean time we will have to look into dummy eggs. Thank you :)

it's my experience that clutches vary between 8 and and 14 if you would like her to hatch the eggs what you can do is buy a dozen extra large eggs and remove the turkey eggs as she lays them and replace them with the store bought eggs then place the eggs you collect in and egg turner or egg carton. if you put them in a carton just remember to tilt the carton several time a day. If she doesn't go broody you can incubate them yourself if she does go broody exchange the bought eggs for the turkey eggs. preferably at night.
