Hello all, It’s that time of year for us again.

During my harvesting of our Christmas turkey. I have left it for a moment after plucking and returned to it covered in urine/muck. An obvious release of something but it is All over the skin and possibly in feather holes.

Is the bird now ruined or can I just wash it down?

I’d like to add I did dry pluck it so if I wash it down wil I then have to start éviscération process now instead of aging

common if food not with held
wash and proceed to gut
Usually birds are either plucked and gutted, then rested until rigor mortice has passed.
Aged birds are usually not plucked or drawn until after aging, so contaminates do not get in through the bare skin.

Skin has stained from it. I’ll gut it, but will it still be edible or is it a waste
wash well, then soak in salt water for a few hours. The stain should go away. Cooking kills a lot of germs.
The grocery store birds are thrown in to a communal chill bath that people who used to work there refer to as fecal soup. That's why safe handling directions are on the bag store birds come in... so we don't contaminate the kitchen
