i have a huge pen with a pair of peafowl, 3 bourbon red hens and a guinea trio. the reds are sitting on a ton of eggs that should hatch soon. after they hatch are the hens going to attack me when i go in to feed?? they are all fine now and have never attempted to mess with me but i am wondering about after the hatch????? i have to go in to feed and water and hope it will not be a problem. thanks for any input.

We have never had a problem with our hens during or after a hatch. When they are sitting on eggs they will let me reach under them. They hiss and fluff up, sometimes bite but they are just protecting the eggs. When the poults come they are protective of them. If you move slowly and don't corner them they will back away.

I agree with Steve. My Bourbon Red hens were unbelievably easygoing about letting me get right in there with the chicks and/or eggs. They reacted mildly, but never attacked me in defense like my banty hen (chicken) does.

My BRs are all friendly.. Last year when I raised them I would sit out in a chair with them while they free ranged..

I have had about 4 starting to set this year... One was a disaster being on the same nest as a little red hen..

The others were laying in the woods which when I found them, robbed their nests. During that time they didn't do anything to me, other than give a dirty look as to what did I think I was doing...
