I noticed lately that Machintosh, my Silver Appleyard X, Drake has be kind of slow coming in at night. Tonight he was quite far behind and I noticed something hanging and dragging underneath him.
for lack of a better discription, It look like a big brown poop hanging from him about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. I picked him up and turned him over and it looked really dry so i squeezed it. It felt and looked like i could crumble it but was nervous because I could see something yellow in the middle so I stopped and came in to browse the web.
I assumed he would need me to soak his bottom as not to hurt him but after looking around I am thinking the yellow in the middle may be his penis.
Please advise!!! I just added 3 pictures
1st is direct view while he is on his back (very Cooperative duck)
2nd is me holding it straight up
3rd is the back of it.
4th is the big piece I removed after a 45 minute soak and a little Dawn dish soap. I am sorry but picture 4 is displaying 1st and I do not know how to change it at the moment
5th after 2nd soak and removal of more black stuff. something round and yellow still there. I slathered area with antibiotic ointment.

**********45 minutes after soaking i removed a big section of the hard black think, I admit I was a bit nervous but it did not seem to be causing him pain. He is still soaking. I will keep you updated...
Picture 4 is what I removed. Is it poop?

I have been soaking him twice a day and putting preperation H on him. It is only the 3rd day of treatment and the sweeling is about 1/3 pf the size it was. Also all the black stuff is off.
It looks like he had a prolapse of his vent???
Anyway so far he is much stronger.
He did not seem to be able to poop the 1st day. Each day he is passing alittle more substance. It was at first clear and now brownish in color.

Glad to hear he is slowly improving.

Soaking does help a prolapse, if you haven't done so add some epsom salts to your soaking water - this can be soothing and hopefully speed the reduction in swelling. If there is tissue still exposed, try to keep it moist with the Prep H.

Keep him drinking and add some vitamins to his water. I hope all goes well.

You might find it easier to put a small rubber band around it! If you've got a strong tiny one spread it apart as far as you can and just place it where you think it needs to go. Having a hemostat would help if that's an option. Any kind of spreading device would work. That's what is done for some big hemorrhoids in people. Speaking of hemorrhoids, could it be one I wonder?

Hopefully, it's not part of his intestines because that would be bad.

This thread is over 2 yrs old and the OP has not been online for close to a year. Hopefully they were able to resolve their problem - they never updated the thread
